Laveen, AZ— President Ben Shelly will be presenting two Navajo Nation flags to the families of Navajo Code Talker Lloyd Oliver at today’s funeral being held at the Gila Crossing Presbyterian Church in Laveen, Arizona at 10 a.m.
One of the last two Navajo Code Talkers, Marine Corporal Lloyd Oliver, 88, passed away at an Avondale, Arizona hospice from health complications.
President Shelly will deliver Navajo Nation flags to his wife Lucille Williams-Oliver and her family and to the family of his late wife-Pauline Peters-Oliver.
“Corporal Oliver was a kind and quite man who spoke with a smile,” stated President Shelly. ”He loved his families, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and serving on behalf of the Navajo Nation. Cpl. Oliver was the definition of a true national hero and we are grateful for his distinguished military service.”
President Shelly ordered Navajo Nation flags to be flown at half-staff from March 18-21, in honor of the late Navajo Code Talker Oliver. He was one of the 29 original code talkers recruited to transmit Navajo coded messages during World War II.
